The Red Crusade forced countless Orcs, Lizardmen, Skinwalkers, and Ogryn to flee Anhelt's shores, driving them into exile in the Sorrowlakes. Among these outcasts was Maneater, a towering Ogryn shrouded in infamy. His name stemmed from dark accusations in his homeland of Arnoc—claims that he had murdered humans and consumed their flesh. Unable to defend himself, his tongue had been cut out, leaving him voiceless and misunderstood. Illiterate and unable to communicate, he became an enigma. Despite his fearsome reputation, Maneater integrated into a quiet Lizardmen village, working diligently and living a solitary life as a fisherman. Over decades, he harmed no one, and his seemingly ageless appearance only deepened the mystery surrounding him. Years later, the Gaellen Warclave formed, calling on warriors to fight in a distant war. Recruiters approached Maneater, assuming his name and strength would make him eager to enlist, but he refused. The Warclave's ships sailed away, leaving the Sorrowlakes' inhabitants to dread what would happen if the armies failed. Not long after, new invaders arrived: vengeful forces from the Telerian League, led by Elves and Humans from Aravia, Kaerok, and Frostheim. As the League prepared to strike, Maneater's village hastily formed a militia, expecting Maneater to decline. To their astonishment, he joined the effort, armed with a massive mallet and silent resolve. The battle was brutal. The Telerian League's soldiers, calling themselves the Order of the Conquerors, charged the defenders with relentless fury. These knights, driven by hatred, tore through the militia's lines, their axes gleaming with deadly intent. The village fighters, though poorly armed, stood firm. Miraculously, none of them died. Even those gravely wounded rose again, their injuries leaving no blood. At the centre of the chaos was Maneater, humming a haunting melody. Though untouched by enemy weapons, his body bled as if bearing unseen wounds. Each drop of blood seemed to fuel his comrades' uncanny resilience. The Conquerors, unnerved by the supernatural spectacle, abandoned the battlefield in disarray. The militia, too fatigued to pursue, turned their attention to Maneater, whose eerie appearance matched his grim reputation. Blood streamed from his mouth, giving the impression he had consumed his foes. Yet it was clear the blood was his own, spilled in some mysterious act of sacrifice. Brought back to the village, Maneater slowly recovered, but his secret remained locked away. His inability to speak or write left the villagers to speculate about the source of his power. Though the truth was never revealed, the people understood one thing: without Maneater, they would not have survived. Their gratitude toward the silent guardian endured long after the battle.
