Heinrik was a religious fanatic – unsurprising for one raised in the Lands of Rebirth during the Second Great War. When the Lightbringers began using mortal hosts to allow them to pass through the <color=#774418>Arbiter's</color> portal from the Halls of Eternity to Teleria, Heinrik volunteered to surrender his body to one. However, when the time came, he was seized with fear at the prospect of death, even if it was in a holy rite, and fled.
He tried to atone by fighting against Demonspawn and Undead with extra fervor. But he was always limited by pain, exhaustion, hunger, and fear – Human limitations. This only reminded Heinrik of his fear that stopped him making the ultimate sacrifice of granting his body to a Lightbringer. He witnessed Lightbringers take to the field and fight with incredible power, earning the admiration of all. Heinrik craved that admiration. He coveted their power to smite evil.
Heinrik’s desires warped his perspective, and soon there were no depths he would not sink to in pursuit of them. Believing his ends justified any means, he consulted a renegade Painsmith dwelling in the Sewers of Arnoc, said to be learned in the ways of Demonspawn, Lightbringers, and bodily transformation.
The Painsmith told Heinrik he could acquire the supernatural power of a Lightbringer but keep his identity and ego intact. First he would have to augment his body with magical runes and metal grafts, to hold and channel the Lightbringer’s power. He endured the Painsmith’s surgeries, chanting hymns against the agony.
Then, to gain a Lightbringer’s power, he would have to kill one to infuse himself with divine essence. Heinrik had lost sight of his piety, consumed with the quest to transcend his Humanity. Blasphemy would not stop him now. He hunted down and slew a wounded Lightbringer on the battlefield, and became something both more and less than Human.
